Japanese Fact-Finding Mission Visits Benghazi

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) A Japanese fact-finding mission visited on Sunday Benghazi, where the Libyan Transitional National Council (TNC) is based, the Foreign Ministry said in Tokyo.

The mission is led by Tsukasa Uemura, Deputy Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, and consisting of four staff members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

During its stay in Benghazi, the mission held talks with Mr. Saleh Al-Din Al-Bashari, Deputy Head of Foreign Affairs of the TNC Executive Board and several members of the TNC. On this occasion, the Japanese side once again conveyed Japan's position regarding the TNC as "the legitimate interlocutor of the Libyan people". It also reaffirmed its official invitation for Dr. Mahmood Jibril, Chairman of the TNC Executive Board to visit Japan, the ministry said.

The mission also exchanged opinions with officials from the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations, which have all established local offices within Benghazi, regarding issues like the situation in Libya.
