Opening of Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehöyük

Japan Year in Turkey
The official statement reads as follows:
1. An official opening ceremony of the Museum of Archaeology Kaman-Kalehoyuk will be held on July 11 (July 10 local time). The museum is built in Kaman, Turkey, 100 km southeast of the capital city of Ankara, through Japan's cultural grant aid. The ceremony will be held in conjunction with the completion ceremony of the adjacent Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology. The ceremony will be attended by His Imperial Highness Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, Honorary President of the "Japan Year 2010 in Turkey," and Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko from the Japanese side, and Mr. Ertuğrul Günay, Minister of Culture and Tourism from the Turkish side.
2. Kaman-Kalehoyuk archeology site is located in the ancient crossroads of East-West cultural exchange. A number of precious artifacts have been found as a result of excavation efforts by Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology since 1985. The museum was built to provide a proper facility to preserve and display these artifacts, upon the request of the Turkish government, with Japan extending necessary funds (maximum of 436 million yen) for constructing the museum. Also, an expert was dispatched from Japan through the Japan Foundation for display work in the museum.
3. The museum will also be used for the preservation and renovation program for the Cappadocia archeological site in the future, a joint project of Japanese and Turkish experts to be implemented through UNESCO's Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Preservation of World Cultural Heritage. This is expected to contribute in further strengthening bilateral relations and advancing exchanges.
