Saudi Ambassador Ahmad Al-Barrak: Largest Ever Saudi Delegation to Visit Japan

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) A high-level Saudi delegation headed by the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mr. Adel Faqih, arrives in Tokyo tomorrow (Sunday) to participate in the joint Saudi-Japan Business Council, part of the celebrations on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Mr. Faqih, who has chosen Japan to be his first stop since his appointment to his current ministerial post, will attend the forum and meet his Japanese counterpart for talks about bilateral economic cooperation, diplomatic sources told PanOrient News.

More than 200 officials from the Saudi public and private sectors will participate in celebratory events to be held in various venues in Tokyo and Osaka through May 22. They include lectures, an antique exhibition of more than 40 historical relics, and folkloric dances.

Mr. Ahmed Al-Barrak, the newly appointed Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Japan, noted that this delegation is considered to be the biggest economic, cultural, academic, and political delegation to visit Japan since the establishment of diplomatic relations. He indicated that the activities of the forum reflect the two country’s strong bilateral strategic partnership.

Ambassadr Al-Barrak said that the events and shows will be held at the popular landmark buildings such as "Midtown", "Roppongi Hills" and "Sunshine City" in Tokyo, and Osaka University where they are expecting thousands of visitors a day who will have the opportunity to see features of ancient civilizations and cultural monuments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In an official statement, the Japanese government expressed hope that holding this forum will further strengthen bilateral friendly relations.

Japanese officials stressed the importance of Saudi Arabia in respect to Japan's energy security. According to the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry’s data, Saudi Arabia has been the largest supplier of crude oil supplies to Japan for years, providing between one fourth to one third of the total of Japanese imports saying this places the Kingdom in a vital and strategic position to promote the Japanese economy.
