Japan Welcomes Iraq's New Government

PanOrient News- Tokyo- Japan welcomed today the establishment of the new government in Iraq "and furthering of democracy with the participation of all major political forces" there, and pledged to support it.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said the approval by the Iraqi Parliament of the new Cabinet Ministers’ list, submitted by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki on December 21, means that the process for the establishment of a new government in Iraq "is now complete."

"Japan hopes that the new government and the people of Iraq will be able to overcome religious and ethnic differences and proceed toward the stabilization of security and the recovery of the country’s economy" according to the statement.

Along with the further promotion of Japan-Iraq cooperation in a wide range of fields, including the economy, Japan will continue to offer necessary official support for the socioeconomic development of Iraq, the statement said.
