Tokyo -- Kantoku Teruya, the Diet affairs chief of the coalition Social Democratic Party told reporters today, "I've made a serious decision and am always prepared. I will not let anyone force any more sacrifices on Okinawa."

Teruya, who is also the senior lawmaker from Okinawa, was born in a US concentration camp -- Camp Susupe -- on Saipan on July 24, 1945.

Meanwhile, SDP leader Mizuho Fukushima, has been calling on Prime Minister Hatoyama to largely ignore his own end-of-May deadline for resolving the Futenma dispute.

When asked on a television program whether or not the SDP is preparing to pull out of the governing coalition, Fukushima answered, "The important thing right now is not whether the SDP will leave the coalition, but that it is time for the party to work hard not to let them come up with a final conclusion that it should be relocated within the prefecture."

The SDP is said to be divided between those ready the leave the government and those who think the party will have more influence on the policy debate by remaining within the coalition.
