Tokyo -- Tokyo Shinbun reported on Thursday that a coop slaughterhouse in Saitama Prefecture began to export beef to the UAE on Wednesday. The slaughterhouse in Saitama passed the difficult criteria provided by Islamic law and was recognized as a halal institution, according to the article.

The report says that this is the first time for Japanese beef to be exported to the UAE.

The slaughterhouse in Saitama received an offer to export its beef two years ago from a company that sells Japanese food in the Middle East.

The article also states that several members of a Japanese Islamic cultural center gave a prayer at the slaughterhouse and ensured that the cows do not mix with pigs.

"The method of slaughtering is based on Islamic law," the article says.
