Japan is Concerned about Israel's Housing Violations in East Jerusalem

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) The Government of Japan said it is deeply concerned about Israel's approval of the construction of new housing units for Jewish people in East Jerusalem. A statement by Japan's Foreign Ministry said that the Israeli act, which is strongly opposed by the Palestinians, goes against the efforts by the international community to resume the negotiations for peace.

The Government of Japan does not recognize any act that prejudges the final status of the territories in the pre-1967 borders nor Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem. Japan strongly calls upon Israel to refrain from any unilateral act that changes the current situation in East Jerusalem, according to the statement.

It also said that Japan strongly hopes that the negotiations for peace will be resumed soon.
