Japan Urges for Restraint in Occupied Golan Heights

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) The Government of Japan said it is deeply concerned about the deaths and injuries among the demonstrators that resulted from the gunfire of Israeli troops in their confrontation with the demonstrations of the Syrian residents in the occupied Golan Heights, on Sunday, June 5.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said Japan offers its condolences to the victims and their families, and urges all parties involved to exercise restraint, and to avoid any actions intended to provoke violence.

The Government of Japan also stresses the importance of the continued smooth operations of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in monitoring the disengagement between Israeli and Syrian forces, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, Syria strongly condemned "Israel's flagrant aggression on the unarmed Syrian and Palestinian civilians who gathered at the borders of the occupied Syrian Golan to stress their legitimate right to the liberation of the land and return."

The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on Monday in Damascus that "the aggression resulted in a large number of martyrs and injured, which stresses the state terrorism exercised by Israel and the reality of the Israeli aggressive trend against the sons of our nation."

"We put what Israel is doing in the hands of the international community and all the parties concerned with the human rights and the sanctity of human life which have always tried to justify Israel's violations at the expense of the Arab legitimate rights," the ministry said.

The Israeli occupation forces on Sunday fired live bullets at hundreds of the unarmed Syrian and Palestinian youth who gathered at the borders of the occupied Syrian Golan to reiterate commitment to their right to liberate the land and return home. 24 were martyred including a child and a girl, and more than 350 others were injured, according to Syrian accounts.
