Resist Aggressive Interference

Saturday, September 3, 2011

A cartoon published by the Japanese Asahi Shimbun daily advising Japan's new Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda to resist the "yokoyari" or threats and aggressive interference in selecting his cabinet members.

Noda handpicked his allies for key posts in the Cabinet he launched Friday, September 2, 2011. The new cabinet includes 10 ministers with no previous cabinet experience, representing a majority in the 18-strong team.

Analysts said that Noda's choice of foreign and finance ministers in particular, was based not on experience but on maintaining party balance and harmony by picking lawmakers from various factions within the ruling Democratic Party.
