After the demise of the Cold War we came to learn so many new categories of state - Rogue State, Failed State, and even Pariah State.

Before that time it was much easier to account for all of these, since the Soviet Union supposedly represented all that was wrong in the international system.

Now, however, we are forced to study each troublesome kind of state separately.
