Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Tokyo-(PanOrient News) The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo announced that it will be sending a 73-member delegation to a large-scale investment promotion event in the U.S. this week. The 2019 SelectUSA Investment Summit will be held from June 10-12 in Washington, D.C.

According to the embassy, the annual summit is the highest-level investment promotion event in the U.S. and strives to connect international companies with American economic development organizations. This year’s keynote speakers include Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump and National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow.

Japanese companies play a significant role in the U.S. economy, with Japan being the second-largest foreign contributor to U.S. employment and the leading foreign contributor of U.S. manufacturing-based employment. Past summit participants from Japan have announced over 250 new investment projects and almost $25 billion in investments.

“Investing in the United States is a great growth strategy for any company in Japan. It simply makes good business sense,” said U.S. Ambassador to Japan Bill Hagerty. “I am excited to see these companies find growth opportunities in the U.S. market and contribute to the U.S.-Japan economic relationship.”

The U.S. receives more foreign direct investment than any other country, with total stock amounting to over $4 trillion at the end of 2017.
