Dubai Chocoate Cake (OKUDO DINNING)
PanOrient News By Motoko Naito TOKYO: Thanks to its viral popularity on TikTok and Instagram in South Korea, Dubai-style chocolate – also known as “Dubai Choco” – made its debut in Japan in September 2023 and has quickly become a sensation. Well-known stores such as Don Quijote and Kaldi sell the chocolate for around 550 yen, and some fans are said to be buying it in bulk on a daily basis. One of the most popular variations features pistachios and kataifi – a traditional ingredient originating from Turkey and Greece, known for its crispy, noodle-like texture. This combination paired with rich chocolate delivers a luxurious experience that has captivated Japanese tastebuds. The flavor offers a unique blend of indulgence, health-conscious ingredients, and distinctive Middle Eastern flair, and this has led to a rapid rise in its popularity. The original product is a chocolate bar filled with knafeh and pistachio, created by UAE-based chocolatier FIX Dessert Chocolatier under the brand name “Can’t Get Knafeh of It.” However, fans may want to act fast. NAKASHIMA Ryo, Director at Japanese importer DOSHISHA Corp., hinted that the product might be temporarily pulled from the shelves during the hot summer months due to concerns over heat sensitivity. The weather is already getting warm in Japan, so Dubai Choco fans are recommended to stock up before the summer heat sets in.
