TOKYO: A Japanese pro-Palestine protest group is organizing opposition to Israel’s involvement in CyberTech Tokyo 2025, an event endorsed by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) that covers technological innovations and solutions to combat threats within the global cyber arena.

BDS Bulletin Japan notes that Cybertech Tokyo 2025, which takes place on September 4, is sponsored by the governments of Japan and Israel, “and will feature many Israeli government and military officials, as well as executives from military companies.”

It proclaims, “What on earth is our government thinking? It is unbelievable that, amid the escalating genocide in Palestine, the Japanese government dares to collaborate with Israel to promote CyberTech Tokyo 2025, showcasing spy systems and weapons being used for the genocide.”

“The National Cybersecurity Office under the Cabinet Secretariat and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, which are sponsoring this event, are shameless accomplices to genocide.”

BDS highlights some of the participants in the event, which, it says, are “war criminals and genocide practitioners.”

These include Yossi Cohen, the former head of Mossad, which, BDS says, “has assassinated key figures involved in the Palestinian liberation struggle.” It says Cohen has become the representative of the Israeli office of the Softbank Vision Fund, which “is investing in surveillance systems used for the oppression of Palestinians under occupation.”

Next on its list is Israeli Ambassador to Japan Gilad Cohen. BDS describes him as “unfit for any ceremony, event, exchange or educational space amidst Israeli control of Palestinians, violence and crackdown of human rights.”

BDS also targets Asaf Kochan, the president of Israeli cyber security company Sentra and, it adds, a former commander of the 8200th unit of the Israeli army's elite unit for cyber warfare.

The group demands that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the National Cyber Control Office withdraw from the event and calls for the international community to stop supplying arms to Israel and to impose sanctions against companies operating in occupied territories.

It accuses METI of “complicity in Israel’s occupation and genocide” and says if Japanese pension funds are investing in the Israeli government or corporations, “then they are funding the roots of the genocide economy.”

The BDS movement is an international campaign called for by Palestinian citizens to boycott, divest, and impose sanctions on Israel in order to end Israel's apartheid policy. The BDS Japan Bulletin is a message board in Japan that provides information about BDS and Palestine.
