A Japanese Business Mission Discussed Investments in Basrah, Iraq

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) A Japanese business mission held discussions today in Basrah, Iraq, with executives from the Ministry of Electricity and local energy companies, the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said in a statement. The business mission, consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and private companies, is headed by Mr. Mitsuo Sakaba, Ambassador in charge of Reconstruction Assistance to Iraq.
The Mission exchanged views with Mr. Haider Ali Fadhel, Chairman of the Basrah Investment Commission, and had a business meeting with executives from the Ministry of Electricity and energy companies in Basrah area.
Mr. Ali Fadhel, reportedly told the Japanese delegation that "the security and the economic situations are stable in Basrah and Japanese investors are encouraged to visit that area." He also invited Japanese companies to establish power generation, port development, and other industrial projects there.
The Mission visited Iraq in order to crystallize the "Declaration on Establishing a Comprehensive Partnership between Japan and Iraq", and to follow up on a previous mission sent to Baghdad last February, according to the statement.
The foreign ministry said it is expected that the discussions between mission participants and provincial officials and company executives in Basrah would accelerate business operations of Japanese companies in Iraq. PanOrient News
