Japan Calls on Israel to Stop the West Bank Housing Construction

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) The Government of Japan called upon Israel today not to implement the construction of housing units in the West Bank and said it does not recognize any Israeli act that prejudges the final status of the territories in the pre-1967 borders.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said that Japan "is deeply concerned about the announcement of the Government of Israel regarding a bid for the construction of new housing units in settlements in the West Bank. Such an act goes against the efforts by the international community to resume negotiations and creates obstacles to the peace process.

The Government of Japan does not recognize any act that prejudges the final status of the territories in the pre-1967 borders. Japan calls upon Israel not to implement the construction plans, the statement said.

It added that Japan strongly hopes that peace negotiations towards a two-state solution, under which Israel and a Palestinian State will live side by side
in peace, will be resumed soon.
