Japan Welcomes NCA Election in Tunisia

Tokyo- (PanOrient News) Japan welcomed the Tunisian October 23 election for the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) and said this event was the first step in the country's process of democratization.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said that in order to support Tunisia's reform and democratization efforts, Japan had dispatched an election monitoring team headed by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Kazuyuki Hamada.

The team reported that citizens had participated in the election with enthusiasm at all the observation points they had monitored,and overall voting activities progressed without any major disruptions.

According to the statement, Japan anticipates that the process of transition following the NCA election will be smoothly implemented, and that this will lead to important advancements in the democratization of Tunisia ensued by the democratization of the Middle East and North Africa.
