YANGON – PanOrient News An official from Myanmar has downplayed the Rohingya conference being planned for New York, questioning its effectiveness without the participation of his country. “Oddly enough, Myanmar has not been invited to participate in the September discussions at the United Nations in New York,” the official told PanOrient News, suggesting that Myanmar had been deliberately left out. “Realistically, without Myanmar the issue cannot be solved but rather will create more tensions and bring hardship on those that are displaced on the border.” Referring to the “international conference on the Rohingya” being organized by Bangladesh in September in New York, the official said: "Myanmar does not practice political and media stunts, short term selfies and photo ops! We won't use the crisis for purely domestic and international political gains.” The official expressed readiness for a proactive Myanmar role to solve the issues. “We are open to engagement with any sincere, honest parties for a long-term, lasting solution to the problem both Myanmar and Bangladesh have had for decades along theirborders.” The official believes key stakeholders and international organizations have been dishonest and shown bias against Myanmar. “For a meaningful lasting solution, the cooperation and participation of certain powers in the region or neighborhood is also necessary.”
