Palestinian PM Salam Fayyad to Visit Japan Next Week

Tokyo - Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Dr. Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, of the Palestinian Authority, will visit Japan from November 23 for 4 days.

During his stay in Japan, Dr. Fayyad will meet with Mr. Naoto Kan, Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Seiji Maehara, Minister for Foreign Affairs and other government senior officials "to exchange views extensively on the current situation of the Middle East peace process and cooperation to establish a viable Palestinian State", according to the Ministry.

This is Dr. Fayyad’s first visit to Japan since he became Prime Minister.

The Ministry said that during this visit, Japan intends to elaborate its contribution to progress in the peace process.

The statment also added that "it is expected that this visit will further promote the Japan – Palestinian relationship."
