YANGON: YANGON: A senior Myanmar minister stated that his country is not interested in any other country's involvement than Bangladesh in assisting the repatriation of Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh to his country.

Ko Ko Hlaing, a minister in Myanmar's State Administration Council, responded to a question from PanOrient News regarding Bangladesh's request for “Japan's assistance in creating a roadmap for the early repatriation of Rohingya refugees.” This request also includes organizing a high-level conference on the issue in Doha with the United Nations.

Bangladesh's Foreign Adviser, Md Touhid Hossain, made that request during a meeting in Dhaka with Japanese Vice-Foreign Minister Ikuina Akiko. He sought Japan's support in developing a route for the early repatriation of Rohingyas. In response, she reportedly expressed Japan's backing for the relocation of Rohingyas to Bhashan Char.

Minister Ko Ko Hlaing reiterated Myanmar's stance on the matter, making it "crystal clear" to the audience. He indirectly dismissed Japan's involvement, emphasizing the clarity and firmness of Myanmar's position.

Minister Ko Ko Hlaing also acknowledged the progress in the repatriation efforts, stating that Myanmar had agreed to accept individuals residing in the country before the 2016 incident. He reassured that the process of verifying the list of returnees provided by Bangladesh is currently underway and is gaining momentum. He emphasized that this matter involves two responsible sovereign nations and does not require the involvement of any third party.
