FM Maehara on Detention of the Four Japanese Nationals in China

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just released the following statement:

1. Mr. Seiji Maehara, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, summoned Mr. Cheng Yonghua, Chinese Ambassador to Japan, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shortly after 4 p.m. on September 27 (Mon) and lodged representations concerning the four Japanese nationals detained in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, the People's Republic of China.

2. Minister Maehara requested that China secure the safety of the Japanese nationals, permit consuls and attorneys to visit and interview them continuously, and resolve the case promptly.

3. In response, Ambassador Cheng stated that he would promptly report the representations precisely to his government.
