Qatari Ambassador Offers Support to Japan for Upcoming U.N. Crime Congress

Tokyo – (PanOrient News)
The Qatari ambassador to Japan said that his country would offer full support to Japan as it prepares to host the 14th U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Kyoto in 2020.

The ambassador, Hassan Al-Emadi, delivered a speech in the House of Representatives on June 19 about the upcoming event, the last one having been hosted by Qatar in 2015. The forums bring together relevant institutions to discuss and seek solutions to problems in the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice.

“We in the State of Qatar greatly cherish the existing friendly and cooperative relations with our important partner Japan,” said Ambassador Al-Emadi. “In this context, we assure you of our full readiness to offer all our support to ensure the success of the Kyoto Congress 2020.”

The ambassador mentioned the Doha Declaration, which was adopted at the 13th U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Qatar. Qatar has lent financial support to the four-year initiative, which is focused on such areas as judicial integrity, prisoner rehabilitation and preventing youth crime.

The ambassador said that his country has been working closely with the U.N. to implement the outcomes of the Doha Declaration by transforming its recommendations into practical programs.

“We are confident that the Kyoto Congress 2020 will be a great success to be added to the success of the Doha Congress 2015, towards the development of plans and programs that will achieve the positive and sustainable objectives of crime prevention, criminal justice, combating corruption and the rule of law,” he said.

He added that he appreciated Japan involving Qatar in its preparations for next year’s Kyoto Congress and wished it success.

A group of nearly 100 Japanese ruling coalition lawmakers was also formed this week to support the event, led by former Minister of Justice Yoko Kamikawa. Next year will mark the first time Japan has hosted the forum in 50 years.
